Natural Hair Care: Wash Day Featuring TGIN Products

As a Black woman with natural hair, caring for my hair is part of my selfcare practice. There’s something about fresh, clean, and healthy hair that immediately elevate my mood. I don't know about you but when my hair is done, I immediately get a boost of confidence and feel like I can conquer the day. Whether you are wearing your hair in a wash-and-go style or wearing a protective hairstyle, it’s important to take care of your natural tresses. After all, a woman's hair is her crown and glory! Having a wash day routine and using quality and affordable products is essential and makes the wash day process a lot more enjoyable.

There are so many different products in the health/beauty space claiming to be good for ethnic hair (product marketed towards natural hair, curls, kinks and everything in between), but few brands really delivers something special and unique. I decided to put TGIN’s products to the test, and I can honestly say I am a happy customer!

About The Brand TGIN Founder and Chief Executive Officer is Chris-Tia Donaldson. Thank God It’s Natural (tgin) was founded in 2013 after the release of Chris-Tia’s book Thank God I’m Natural: The Ultimate Guide to Caring for Natural Hair. Besides sharing the name Chris (which I go by as a nickname if we know each other like that lol), Chris-Tia is also a lawyer. She wrote her book after leaving her career in big-law. I wonder what inspired her to make that move and transition, but the brand’s success is a clear indication that she made a Boss move and it was the right decision.

Lawyer—Founder—Advocate

In 2015, Chris-Tia was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 36. During her treatment, “she learned that having money could make the difference between living and dying when it came to treating this condition. She founded tgin Foundation to advocate for women experiencing financial difficulties, who are undergoing treatment, to highlight health disparities due to race and socio-economic factors, and to empower young women to listen to their bodies,” according to her website bio. Chris-Tia’s new book is called This is Only a Test: What Breast Cancer Taught me about Faith, Love, Hair and Business.

TGIN Products Reviewed

TGIN Moisture Rich Sulfate Free Shampoo: Nice lather, not too foamy and rinses out quickly. It gives you a good clean without drying out your hair like some other sulfate-free shampoo. It’s a moisturizing shampoo for sure that instantly revive your curls and natural texture.

TGIN MIRACLE REPAIRx Deep Hydrating Hair Mask: Absolutely love the scent of this treatment mask. It has a good slip allowing you to easily run your fingers or detangling brush to detangle and comb through your hair. I also like that I didn’t have to use too much of the mask to get the job done! Sometimes you have to use the whole jar or half a jar to get treatment on your entire head, but that’s not the case here. I will be able to use for a few more washes before needing to re-purchase, Thank God!

TGIN MIRACLE REPAIRx Curl Food Daily Moisturizer: Moisturizes hair w/out leaving any white residue. Nice light scent—not overpowering at all which can be a turned-off for me in styling products. Overall great product for twist, twist-outs or wash-and-go styles. I was able to use some of this daily moisturizer along with my favorite Eco-Style gel to sleek my hair back into a ponytail.

TGIN Rose Water Curl Defining Mousse: Didn’t use the Mousse yet. I plan to use when I do a flexi-rod set which I hope to do soon since I haven’t done that style in awhile. I could have used on my ponytail, but the gel and daily moisturizer did such a good job I didn't want to add any more products, if not warranted.

After washing my hair, I did some quick jumbo twist to air dry my hair using the TGIN daily moisturizer and went to bed. The next day, I quickly pulled out the twist and sleek my hair back into a ponytail for work (pictured below). I was so happy with the results. It's been days later and my hair still feels moisturized! I will keep on using these products and will try some of their other products as well.

Supporting brands w/ a purpose and mission to empower others is a win win for me!

I love supporting brands who strive to make a difference in their community and uses their platform to advocate for issues I care about and empower others. TGIN’s founder is using her platform to advocate on an issue I deeply care about—racial disparities in healthcare and for this reason alone I am a huge fan! I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to try their products, but with the Holiday season rapidly approaching I thought I would share my experience with this brand with you all. TGIN products are relatively affordable ranging in prices from $10-$18 for standard sizes. I’ve link the products above if you are interested in trying any or all of them for yourself.
